It's Thursday and that means new art journal pages :) This week, I thought a lot about the idea of a clean slate. I've come to accept that there is no such thing, but I'm also learning to take comfort in the fact that I'm a collection of my experiences.
Sometimes, it's difficult for me to get my thoughts down on paper, so I've been finding this art journal project to be kind of therapeutic. This is what my art journaling approach looks like right now:
Process
Since starting this project, I've gotten into a bit of a rhythm. Right now my process begins with an idea that I want to convey. Then I try to distill it into a word or a phrase to use as a base for the rest of my page.
Materials
I love using my Traveler's Notebook as my art journal (more about it here) and I plan to make a new notebook every month. I've also been using Thickers (by American Crafts) for the typographical elements on my pages. And sequins, I mustn't forget the sequins :) I'm trying to experiment with different textures, so I've been using bits and pieces from my scrap stash.
This works for me now, but I'm interested in seeing how my approach evolves as the weeks progress!
Get Messy is an art journal challenge where a gang of crafty vixens are sharing art journal pages we have created to practise our skills and push past our creative limits with hopes to inspire. We share our pages without restraint every week, and once a month we create around a prompt. Go check out these crazy talented ladies who are creating pages who each have a unique perspective and style. We will be sharing our work around social media so follow the hashtag #getmessyartjournal.
