I can't believe it's the end of the month already. Where did August go?? My Get Messy art journal this month was certainly fueled by my anxiety over the passage of time and my desire to use those emotions as an impetus for action. I also used a lot of photographs, something I didn't do in my July art journal.
Today's prompt called for a self portrait without actually using any images of ourselves. I immediately chose to use two photos of my grandmother and the words, "made of stories." The older photo was shot in the Philippines, when she was a young mother. The more recent image is a photo I shot as she regaled me with stories of her life in those days.
Photos often say a lot about the photographer as well as the subject. As much anxiety as I feel about time, there are those moments when I do sense its interconnectedness. I know there are lessons to explore and I don't think I'm quite done with this journal yet, but as of now, these are all of my pages for August.
Get Messy is an art journal challenge where a gang of crafty vixens are sharing art journal pages we have created to practise our skills and push past our creative limits with hopes to inspire. We share our pages without restraint every week, and once a month we create around a prompt. Go check out these crazy talented ladies who are creating pages who each have a unique perspective and style. We will be sharing our work around social media so follow the hashtag #getmessyartjournal.
