I'm starting the Workspace course at Studio Calico next week, so I thought I should try to identify why my space is getting messy and then I can try to work on some solutions. If you haven't already checked out the class, you should! It's taught by the amazing Marcy Penner and I couldn't be more excited.
One big consideration regarding the mess in my studio is that my Silhouette Cameo is in another room. This bit is unavoidable. Lately, I've been assembling my projects in this other room and when it's time to clean up, I'll gather everything into a pile and leave it on the desk in my studio.
I realize not tidying up right away is the reason it turns into madness! But why do I find it such a task in the first place?
- I need a system for storing, using, and discarding scrap paper. This issue is pretty major. I have a bunch of storage areas for scrap paper, but they're at capacity and now I have piles of the stuff on my desk. Basically, out of sight, out of mind and I'm not using the scraps that are stored away. However, I have no room to work on my desk as it is.
- I need a place to store unfinished projects. I have some trays I can repurpose, but I'd love to hear what other people are doing.
- I need an organizer for supplies that travel back and forth between my studio and the other room. I want to avoid just throwing them around on my desk. I have a tote in mind, but again, I'd love to see examples of how other people tackle this problem.
- I need to find homes for all my supplies. Hopefully, some of the storage solutions shared in the Workspace class can be adapted for my situation. I'm giving myself until the end of the month to organize everything. Anything without a home after that will need to be dealt with. I have a lot of unused product, so I'm thinking blog and Instagram giveaway??
My pledge is this... In the coming weeks, I will blog my way through the Workspace course and I will address every single one of these problem areas! Yup, that's right! I can do it!! Well, maybe with a little help from my friends... Tune back in and cheer me on!!
